I just acquired an 1852 Lowe and a 35 HP midbuddy sport surface drive . Try to decide wether to weld on float pods or a hunt deck. What’s the advantage to a hunt deck? |

That's a good boat size and will generally run well without either pods or huntdeck, IMO. Only real advantages of huntdeck that I've seen are a step to get back into the boat for you or dog and placing the motor a little further aft which reduces backwash. I don't think you'll have flotation issues with that hull though. |

Pods will mess with how the water hits the prop and likely hurt performance. Either leave it be or fool with the hunt deck. #CFFITR #GhostBoat #Whoneedsphysicsihaveamudmotor |

I wouldn't mess with pods no a hunt deck. That's plenty boat for that motor., |

The water coming off the pods converges in a location that's bad juju for a surface drive prop. An outboard prop being lower in the water and closer to the boat instead affected the same. The prop design is also somewhat different so the surface drive prop has more issues with it. #CFFITR #GhostBoat #Whoneedsphysicsihaveamudmotor |

FYI, best way to search this site is go to Google, enter topic and add mmt. But yeah, in the past, pods are usually a band-aid for another issue or someone just gets it in their head they need them. It's water dynamics, surface drive props need an undisturbed surface of water to run best. Pods may not effect it at all on a straight run but can completely starve the prop while turning causing so much cavitation that it looses bite. |

We had a cav plate discussion a couple years ago. It's not necessary. Find that thread and you'll be able to make a better decision. It has benefits, but isnt a magic bullet or anything #CFFITR #GhostBoat #Whoneedsphysicsihaveamudmotor |

I've run multiple mudbuddys without a cav plate. You will be fine without it |

Just put the motor on the new hull. Should I get a transom pad or anything to go in between the clamps and engine mount? Or just clamp/bolt and go !? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You probably don’t need it, but I always get a 3/16 plate added to the back for strength and to take the abuse of running timber. It’s up to you, but all my boats, I get s plate added |

I cut a 3” wide strip of 3/16” SS and bolted it through the mount holes so the clamps tighten on it. I could see the aluminum ripping around the clamp pads over time . See how this does . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
