I've been asked about trailer bunk covers a lot lately. Carpet is better than plastic but I don’t like either as they both wear on the GG. The GatorGlide is so slick that while travailing the bunks are moving like orbital sander on the bottom. I replaced my boards 4.5 years ago with birch 2 x 4 , painted just the tops with GG and the wear is minimal. You don’t need PT when you don’t have plastic or carpet trapping moisture on the wood. GG does not cure right on PT and the PT is corrosive.

Re: GatorGlide your trailer bunks
I’m on my third set of bunks. Tried treated boards and plastic covers but ended up getting mild pitting from sand and road grime getting between the hull and plastic on bunks. Next try was untreated boards painted three sides with Gatorglide and gator glided the hull. Lasted about a year. Eventually gator glide wears off on the pressure spots wear the bunks warp and road grime get between the hull and bunks as well. Finally decided straight pine Gatorglide the board three sides and carpet. Carpet helps reduce friction from road grime etc and Gatorglide helps seal the board with no adverse reaction to aluminum Any better ides would be appreciated as we do 1000 mile trips so we’re hard on hulls.

I've been using 2x6 true cut cypress with GG on top for 9 years so far. I've redone the trailer everytime I've done the boat. Make sure your sides are as tight as possible and strap the boat down.
