Post Spud Pole Holes for Go Devil Boat
Any of y’all have pictures of through hull spud pole holes on a godevil boat? Wanting to add them so I can add a winch through the spud pole hole.

I have a 1644 boat. I was thinking about just adding some 1.25 aluminum pipe but it looks like I’d have to drill pretty deep through the hull due to the shape of the bow. Hoping someone has pics of it completed.

I’ve been trying to winch from a shackle on the front, but the winch keeps wanting to twist and not spoil evenly. It works but is a PITA.

Get a long drill bit and drill a pilot hole all the way through from top to bottom where you want it. Then finish with a hole saw the size of your pipe. Insert pipe and weld it up.

Think I’ll have enough meat to winch from if I drill the hole more forward and come through the front of the bow like the red sketch in my pic? Or think it would be better to go further back and come out the bottom of the bow? I’ll definitely stay inside the gunnel when viewed from the top.

The red mark should be plenty of meat.

Just reporting back for the next person who looks into this.. decided that the way I wanted to drill through the hull was going to be too big of a pain. The GD hulls are a lot thicker up front then other manufacturers. Keeping a drill bit from walking, the length of tube that needed to be added, and the hull shape all pushed me to go a receiver hitch route.

Welded a 1/4” plate down, tied it to the gunnels, then welded a piece of 1.5” aluminum tubing with 1/4” wall thickness. Using 1”x1”x.187” steel tubing for the winch/accessories. 3/8” pin holding it together.

Not nearly as clean looking as spud poles but it gets the job done and I’m happy with the end result.
