 Fellas with a 40hp PD..
What hulls are you running? I know longer/skinnier the rig the better they run. Would a 16' or 17' be too short?

Everyone runs all kinds of different hulls with these motors. your next statement just aint true for surface drives. Longtails, yes. 17' minimum. you can make 16' work, but will be heavy in the ass end.
People run anything from 15'-22' hulls with surface drives.

1854, 3/16" hull all around, round chine. I get 29 alone consistently if I'm totally unloaded. Right on the 27/28 line with 2 batteries, trolling motor and fishing gear. Had 4 + me and gear in it and was pushing 24. It's a solid motor but I'll have Marcus beef it up once my power head warranty runs out.
