 Go-Devil 1844 Camp Project Boat
Well, picked this up this weekend off Craigslist. Plan on doing a lot of work to remove the remaining foam...hopefully, this week. Need to have it water ready by next weekend. Lots to do in a short period of time! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I’m curious to know how much weight you pull out?

Looks like it was converted to a tall transom? Is that one of the earlier .100 hulls? Found a longtail for it yet?

Removed the floor plate and the waterlogged foam. The waterlogged foam from that area alone was 36 lbs. Took the difference between me on the scale and me on the scale with the garbage bag full of removed foam. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I am considering cutting all that off to get back to the original transom height. Still thinking about that one, though. Pretty sure the hull is 1/8” and the floor plate is 0.100”. I have a 16 HP GDLT. But, trying to look for something bigger...need to sell or trade off my bicycle...that would help in my efforts. Spent way too much money on a bay boat this summer...that put a dent in the cash flow. Would love to drop a Backwater 40 HP on it. I think it would outrun most stock surface drives if I did that! Re: Go-Devil 1844 Camp Project Boat
Anybody have good suggestions for foam removal from the two pods on each side of the rear half?? Without grinding all the welds and having to reweld those panels back into place?? We all know those aluminum welding guys aren’t cheap! I’m pretty confident those panels reinforce the sides...so, I would like to keep them in place and have minimal loss of structural integrity.

I think I’m going to hit this with a pressure washer to basically water cut all of this out from beneath the bow deck. Looks like previous owner made an attempt to “scallop” the foam from this area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Easy to tell - it is stamped next to the serial number on the back - if it says .100 it means the bottom hull is .100 - new foam for under the floor is maybe $30.00 and it helps stop dents - you can get the foam and also quality rivets direct from GD too.... The new floor foam is blue and far less likely to waterlog over time - the foam you have looks to be from 15 years ago or more.... Newer versions of that hull have 2 more stringers for strength.... Suggest you put in the new foam....

Re: Go-Devil 1844 Camp Project Boat
Plan is to go back with a 1/8” floor. Likely won’t use rivets....although, they would be the easiest. Debating between plug welding or low profile, stainless steel button head screws. Will likely weld the floor in to better brace the longitudinal runners and the bottom, itself. Definitely not going back with any foam.

Re: Go-Devil 1844 Camp Project Boat
About 20 minutes of slicing and dicing with a 3000 PSI pressure washer and 0 degree tip left me a nice pile of foam to scoop out with a sharp shooter. Going to hit it this afternoon with a 15 degree tip and see if that makes a difference. Looks like it works best when just hitting it from different angles and just slicing and dicing. The 0 degree tip definitely cuts it like a knife through hot butter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Go-Devil 1844 Camp Project Boat
A little more progress this evening after work. What a PITA! BTW...the 15 degree tip was not as good as the 0 degree tip. It’s just a matter of letting it slice and dice. And yes, it makes one heck of a mess! Center Section: Port Half: Starboard Half: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Did you cut the front deck open or was it already like that?

Re: Go-Devil 1844 Camp Project Boat
Well, had to put the brakes on this project to bring it to the camp. Pop-riveted the rear floor deck back into place. No flooring in the front, yet. Put a 16 HP Go-Devil longtail on it for now to get me through the season. 12 MPH with two adults, two kids and 6 gallons of gas. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Re: Go-Devil 1844 Camp Project Boat
If I have time this weekend, I might tackle cutting off all the additional transom height the previous owner added to the hull...get it back to original transom height/look. Should give me better entry angle and continue to lighten the boat. It is a light boat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m definitely going to be pulling the foam out of my 2011 16x44 this summer

Are you going to add lids to turn those two side pods in storage areas? Looks like you could fit guns, stern light, folded push poles in them.

Yes...but, that will probably have to wait until after hunting season. But, that is part of the master plan....leave the shell in place, open up the top, rip out the foam, add lids.
