i have removed the foam in my 18x44 before i sold it and depending on year of boat the top floor thickness will determin if you need it or not. mine was made with the thinner metal and i had to add 3 more runners and it really helped with strenghting the boat from flexing. if its not waterlogged i wouldnt remove it does really help with floatation but if its waterlogged you looking at removing about 200-300 lbs. if you take it out and want to replace it GD is putting the yellow foam in now thats in the front and sides its lighter and don't hold water as much as the green foam does.

Benelliman removed it in his 1644 GD boat. He may chime in or shoot him a PM.

I thought my foam might have been water logged, so I drilled out the rivets to remove it. Turns out it was not, my boat just sits a little arse heavy with my set up. I still removed the foam between the runners on each side. I left the foam in the middle for support so my floor doesn't dent in too bad. I figure I step in the middle of the boat more than towards the sides. I talked to Warren at go-devil and he told me the foam does not normally soak up water but will after continually being stepped on, kinda like a wick effect.

If the boat was made within the last 5 years - leave it alone....
If your in doubt weigh the hull - compare it to original spec weight - bet it won't cut weight 50 lbs to remove the foam and WILL hurt safety, strength and integrity of the hull...

Use your funds and energy on camo paint and triming out your accessories - tank - fuel lines - battery relocation - wiring lights - live well - ice chest boom box / pipe bomb boom box - trolling motor mount - boat blind - whatever....

OR

Trade me that bad boy for an open square hull 1748 that only weighs 350lbs.....
