 Re: Excel F4 HELP!!
Don't know on their new boats, lots of the older ones had some issues with carrying a load compaired to the other mudboats on the market, but some did seem to perform okay. I would suggest you find someone who has that same boat and go for a test ride, if they can't refer you to someone or offer a test ride in that boat with the motor you want then that will tell you something right there, they don't know what the new hull will do or don't want you to know for sure, look elsewhere at that point, don't be a test subject. If they can hook you up with a test ride, do it, it might take some travel time and expense, but you will know what you are investing in.
Just my advise.

 Re: Excel F4 HELP!!
X2 on muddoctor.
But would also ask..
What size boat you looking at, what do you want to run in? Timber/Open/Marsh/all ?
You care about speed?
You pushing a load?
I would look around and make sure you are getting what you want if possible (test drive in your conditions would be ideal) or come with your complete package and then post that with how you intend to use it and let everyone give you some feedback.
There are a lot of factors that make a pkg right for you, and it is a HUGE investement that you can't just switch out of if you make a mistake (especially if you buy new!)
If you aren't too far along, I would consider having one of the custom guys on here help you design a complete package and get exactly what you need. If you can get by some of the "this motor is better than that motor" bs, there are some really sharp guys on here who know from experience what they are talking about. (not that there is anything wrong with the excel-looks like a great little boat-you just need a "package" you can count on and they all react different)
I don't think the money would be any more and you would have a much better fit when you are done.
Good luck and keep us posted...

 Re: Excel F4 HELP!!
i run a 45hp mud buddy on my 17x54 excel midwest edition boat. Great boat but i get decent speed around 30mph with me and gear. although the boat slids alot when you turn and is pretty heavy. the fella down here in SC that does work on mud buddys has done sold a hand full of the F4's and has a few left that he is rigging up. nice boats i wish i could trade mine in.
