 Re: Forum Sponsor??
I clicked on the banner and got "sorry, no results for..." Don't know any more than ya'll but those guys sure built some nice hulls.
That whole situation kinda smelled like another manufacturer was jealous and stirred the pot. What ya'll think?

 Re: Forum Sponsor??
I'm not implying that it was any particular manufacturer or that it was even that way for sure. It just smelled kind of fishy that a US Coast Guard official would just show up at a boat builders shop because he was building commercial hulls without proper licenses or whatever when there are backyard boatbuilders doing it in every cajun community South of Alexandria and no one messes with them.

 Re: Forum Sponsor??
ain't nobody pokin'. We all just had the foresight to notice that there was an Ad banner at the top of the forum with his name on it and wondered what was up? Pull your thong outta your ass!! On a serious note---never met the Aucoin guys but it is obvious they have serious skills and built what appear to be some of the best looking skiffs around. Its just a shame, plain and simple.

 Re: Forum Sponsor??
The Coast Guard shows up over here pretty regular. So they make their rounds. With the level of interest they give us...... I've always wondered some of the same things about other builders.
It's a pain. To put it lightly. And they are cracking down for lack of a better term.
It's a dayum grey area like you have never seen....So it really boils down to whether or not you've got deep enough pockets to handle a lawsuit.
The reason the backyard guys get away with it is they are registering the boats as homemade. Not issuing a Coast Guard MIC number. There is no overseeing gov't agency for that.
It ain't worth it to me either. That decision was made a while back. I'm selling 90% crappie and bass boats.
I'd say more about the subject, but apparently they might be reading........

 Re: Forum Sponsor??
Rickey probably decided to quit building boats because he was tired of dealing with knuckleheads to ask too many questions and bug the shit outta him.
