Post Surface Drive on a Grizzly
I've run across a good deal on a 1754 Grizzly boat and was wondering about putting a surface drive mud motor on it. Is that possible, would it be hard to do, and what size would be recommended? Also, if anyone has any pics of the combo I am looking at, post um up and let me see them. Would like to maybe get some more ideas. Thanks for any help.

Would it be possible? yes. Ideal? no. A hull designed for a mm would be much better.

On anything 16ft plus, go with the biggest motor you can afford. Some of the smaller hulls won't hold those heavy lawn mower engines very well.

The Guys I know who've used that specific hull had very good performance with it with both PD's and MB's. Dunno anyone who put a GT or a GD on one though

Go as much HP as you can afford.

Upgrade the boat when you can later.

I appreciate all the help. I'm gonna keep looking for a good deal on a mud boat/duck boat setup. But I still may end up trying this setup in the long run.

i run a 4o mb on a 1860 tracker it works good .good not great i'll run around 25 -26 deep water and 28 in shallows .if you can get the 1754 on the cheap then go for it just run a couple of 1.5" tubes into the transom from the seat to help support the extra weight but my haul is rated for a 80hp so i would think 250lbs of a mud motor would not be heavier than 80 outboard only bad thing is that when you get into the thick mud it wont perform as well due to the chines that run the length of the hull my buddy has a twin rig prodrive and when we hit the thick sh*t he's 2-3 mph faster but as soon as we get into 2-4 inches of water he cant pull on me
but on the cheap it woulnt be a bad option to learn with
