Any way to keep PD weedless?
Running thru matted tules today, and was thinking there has to be a way to keep that chit from wrapping around the shaft.
Anyone do this yet?

Re: Any way to keep PD weedless?
Due to the outboard style design, if you are running on step, then you have to just trim up all the way, then back down.. If you are just idleing, then just put pressure on the handle, and tilt motor.
Hope that helps...

Re: Any way to keep PD weedless?
Uncle J - thanks for the reply. I'm not talking so much about the mass of vegetables that builds up around the lower unit. I want to find a way to keep the fibers from filling the gap between the shaft nut and the wedge at the front of the prop. It wraps up tight as a knot in there and has to be cut out. I think I saw a stick on blade for the lower unit of an outboard in Cabelas way back, I guess I'm kinda thinking of something like that.

Re: Any way to keep PD weedless?
So, You are saying that it actually wraps around the prop? if so, sharpen it.. LOL.
It looks as if that can be set, so I dont see why it wouldnt work.
Good luck.. Let me know what the outcome is..

Re: Any way to keep PD weedless?
Don't worry about it. Just run it. Mine has grass in the gap all the time and I have run it that way for over 3 years. It can't hurt anything.

Re: Any way to keep PD weedless?
I would recommend to cut it out from time to time. It's pretty easy to keep up with. That is what I do.

Re: Any way to keep PD weedless?
I do cut it out every now and then at the house. I don't run that type of veggies but occasionally I get into some flooded fields and the grass will ball up while slow rolloing. I just lift the motor and gass it. Will usually throw that ball off. Don't know of any way to keep it completely clean. But I have never had any issues that i know of.
