Post carnage........
Well while in the process of killing ducks and catching sacalait my lower unit decided to split like brothers in the hood when da cops roll up. Anyways I was running back up the calumet when I notice I have gear oil spewing out from my shaft beneath my clutch. And upon further inspection this was found......

suspect is the upper bearing..and it was a new style lower unit....I guess im just a clear water pirate

Pro Drives are nice but it seems like there are less things to go wrong with the drive systems on the other manufacturers than on a Pro Drive. Maybe I'm wrong but it sure does seem easier to replace a gear, belt, and some seals than the lower unit on a pro drive.

you have to pay to play thats all. I will say it did get me back 5 miles from when I discovered the minature oil well.

its still a hell of alot cheaper than running airboats

There is a "newer" lower unit that is being used now, as of August/September 2010. The gearcase is now sealed right at the prop shaft. The prop shaft housing is now filled with grease to fix the problem of water getting in through bad seals at the prop.

Same one Poker is talking about as far as I know...We def got one well before August 2010.

*edit* Well, maybe you are talking about something different. I didn't thoroughly read that post the first time. So there is a grease zerk on the bottom now too, not just at the top or what?

2 please ;) It don't matter 8 inches of ice, the boat won't hit the water till mushroom season. by then, I'll have a merc retrofitted in there and won't whine about it ;)

I'm not, but I'm gona get one off an outboard and put on, cuz it WILL go out. I looked at a cmc, but gt uses them and it don't seem to be worth a fuk either. So go with tried and true merc or I will just get a hyd cyl and pump and do it right. I do understand that putting 1/5 of the price of the mm for the trim is alot, so they ALL have to scrimp someware.
