Post Gtr trim unit: no response by touching main wires
Trim is out and touching the black and white wires gives no response. Is it locked up? Burned out motor? I am in Florida and need this thing working ASAP. So I need real ideas not "send it to gt"

If he's touching the wires directly then the fuse won't matter right terry! Never heard of one not doing anything when you touch the wires directly, usually makes a little noise or something, it may just be out!

I've got the same exact thing going on right now with mine. The brushes are bad in the CMC trim unit on my rig. It's $300 for a new unit, or you can order replacements parts and rebuild it yourself. It's about $60 for the rebuild kit that I ordered for my boat. If you're looking to get right back in the water and have the money, it's probably much quicker to get a new unit.

Had a similar issue earlier this year, turned out bad springs on the back side of the brushes in the unit.

thanks for the help guys. the unit is definitely going (gone) bad. I beat on it a little and got it to move enough to set it to the right trim for 90% of the running I do so I won't need to mess with it for a while. I'm gonna see how long I can go like that and then have it rebuilt. I appreciate the help!

Rebuild is pretty easy if its the electrical parts

Just had the same problem with mine last week. Its been acting up for a while. I removed the cap off of the top of the electric motor and found the brushes and springs to be a little dirty. Its seems like they were sticking a little and not staying in contact with the armature. I cleaned them up and its working great. Just don't pull the armature out with the end cap assembly or the oil in the unit will get into the electric motor area. Hope this helps.
