Post PRODRIVE PERFORMANCE ISSUES,NEED HELP BAD....
Have a 32 hp PRODRIVE,W/FPR,motor runs great, but prop cavitates bad..My partners tell me it sounds like a top fuel dragster, but it moves the boat like a chevy chevette!!!We operate at 3500 ft of elevation, and my boat is a 16x52,ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

well to eliminate the cavitation just trim up to your top speed trim up a little more to cavitation first starts then trim back down a bump or two. Your probably just running it a little to high. You mention your partners so im assuming your running 3 in a 1652 with a 32 add the fact that your losing speeds because of prop cavitation and your 2-4 mph slower that optimal. Check your rpm's and post. And what speeds you getting, where are they lacking wholeshot or top speeds?

have tried doing all of that..it doesn`t matter how many people,or how much weight. My top rpms are 3750+

how worn is your prop iv seen them work down so bad they cavitate much more than unworn props. Seems to me the cavitation can only be linked to the prop, buy or try a new one. your rpm's are good but you say your speeds bad it has to be the prop. even a slight bit of wear will greatly reduce your speed and bump and grind.

what do you mean its "cavitating"? The prop is meant to run half out the water. What is your speed?

Post Re: PRODRIVE PERFORMANCE ISSUES,NEED HELP BAD....
When I say cavitating,I mean that thru the entire rpm range, the prop never gets a good solid bite,no matter what it`s relationship to water depth,or trim position. It`s been this way ever since this motor was brand new. When I purchased this motor I was hoping for some crazy performance, but have been disappointed from the get. I`ve had this motor for 3 years, and have only got 32 hours on it,due to the fact that it just wants to sit in the water and scream.....Does anybody make a aftermarket alternative prop??Was also wondering if a trim-lift plate like on my bass boat would help??

Trim lift plates belong on a bass boat - not a mud boat.

Start over by telling about your boat and the loads and speeds
you are getting at a particular RPM.

Sounds like you got the rig whole used and are still on whatever prop you started with. It was likely worn down before you got the rig. That way you can get good advise on what prop to buy - or - what to have done to yours at a prop rebuilding shop.

NO,NO,NO....had the boat for years, and upgraded to prodrive from a beavertail 24 longshaft....As far as test driving, these guys out west barely know what a prodrive is,if it wasn`t for magazine ads, they wouldn`t.So finding one to try is pretty much out of the question.I was getting better perf from my old beavertail.Since I put this 32 on[brand new from factory]it`s such a pain to drive, and thats the reason the motor only has 32 hours on it..the engine runs great,it just doesn`t hook up....
Prop shop;whatever. I live in the middle of the nevada desert. These guys think a prop is something on a cropduster.
Thats why I came on this topic board!

What kinda of hull? What size? What shape is it in? What loads do you carry? As stated you need to go into more detail if you want long distance help.

if i remember correctly pd's dont use an angled transom and im almost willing to bet your boat is angled. Might simply be traced to mismatching components. When i got my gt it was on a unangled transom boat and he was actually complaining of the same problem. Id try prop, make sure of no operator error and check hull and im willing to bet it's one of the 3. Prop especially.

Something ain't right cause a PD is way better driving than any longtail. It should drive pretty similar to an outboard. If its been that way since the motor was new then I doubt its the prop. More likely your hull & setup. Best bet would be to show some pics of the rig.

are you running a short transom motor on a tall transom boat? Or possibly a longshaft motor on a short transom boat??

The boat is a 16x52 sea nymph, with a slanted high transom. The reason the beavertail was better,is it had power right off the bottom end of the rpm range, but this pd just wants to sit and scream.. Thought that the prop was the problem, just looking to find aftermarket prop, and go from there....

OK - boat is high transom what about motor ???

Look closely at the silver shaft extension. That is a conversion
kit from short shaft to long shaft.

If that photo that Giga posted is your boat I can almost guaranty 100% that you have a transom issue.

It appears on the pic that the transom has some pretty good angle to it and that does not allow you to trim properly.

Measure Transom angle, call KP and tell him what angle it is and have them send you a different roller so you can adjust your trim.

Naughty,

What about speeds, RPMs, and load factors ?

Are you getting 27mph or 17mph at WOT and 3800 RPMs - for example.
You gotta give more info to get good help. Maybe some pics too.

PS - that pic was from "whackem" and his new rig - just used it because the conversion kit was so visable in the picture

I thank yore problem is with the SeaNympth boat hull. Can be a brand new boathull ... but the surfacedrive MudMotorMachineThang is not gonna run properly on that hull. I don't no the exact hydrodynamical reason fo the failure in performance ...... but I do no it ain't gonna run fo crap with that style of boathull !!!

Solution ~ Put a normal outboard .... mabe a 25hp on yore SeaNymph and git you a compatable boathull fo yore 32hp Pro-Drive MudMotorMachineThang !!!! :D

Isn't a Sea Nymph a deep-v style hull?
