Post Grease Seal for Top of Lower Unit?
Want to replace this seal, does anyone know if this part is available at local parts store? Need to get one right quick before I reassemble my motor.

Thanks

Mb, gt, gd, lt, etc?

There's a gtr lower drive bearing seal replacement thread that has that info for gt. Do a search.

Sorry, Russ! Good observation.

It's a PD, long shaft.

Ahh. Nice. Unfortunately, he's got a prodrive, so it'll be of no help

Well Shooter, looks like you're about to become the Pro Drive seal replacement guru!! Take pics as you go thru disassembly to help yourself remember where everything comes from and goes back, then you can share them with the rest of your PD brothers!

Which seal are you talking about?

Photo for clarification, please.

Gotcha...thanks.

Are you "wanting" or "needing" to change that seal?

Reason I ask, I was going to go after that seal this past summer when doing some "PM" work. When I spoke to PD about it, they said that it's never really been a problem point with the LU's. Just keep the grease pumped into the tower/bushing area and keep an eye on the gear lube level and it would be fine.

If you're needing one this link has some pretty good info on seals. But, you're probably gonna have to pull that seal out and mic the shaft and LU dimensions to get a replacement without going through PD.

To answer your question from the OP, I don't know if you can run out and get one of these. LOL

Blue - thank you, sir. Great info.

Yeah, replacing this seal is a want, not a need. Just figured if I could get one I'd replace it while I was in there. Chasing a water leak in the LU, figured this was my best chance as I'm replacing the splined clutch adapter.

I appreciate your help, have a great new year.

Are you getting a lot of water in the LU lube? If so, the main thing to keep greased is your outdrive. The grease is the barrier on both sides to keep water out and oil in.

The hex seal nut can be getting some wear....but, there are several seals to get through from the nut to the outdrive....and, as mentioned, just keep it greased.

Do you have a grease zerk on the top of your outdrive, in front of the cav plate? If not, you have the old oil filled outdrive....which means you have one vent plug on the knuckle and one fill plug on the rear side of the outdrive......which would be a good time to covert it to grease if you have things apart. It's not that difficult to convert. There was a thread on here recently where somebody converted from old style to new style.

On the face of that seal is a part no. Auto parts or seal and bearing co. Can cross ref that to another manufacturer

Thought this was a total DIY conversion. After reading it again, the only DIY was removing/installing the outdrive and drill/tap the knuckle for additional plug.

Called Prodrive a couple weeks ago to see if they would convert my gen 1 to grease they said they don't anymore. Just gonna keep rolling with gear oil bath till I upgrade. Be nice to find a decent used gen2 lower
