 help changing GTR prop
I got a new prop today and I was wondering if you guys have any tips or tricks to change it by myself. The nut is on there pretty good and it will take some force to get it off, I'm wondering a way to stop the shaft from spinning so i can work on getting the nut off without messing anything up.

 Re: help changing GTR prop
Pipe wrench on the hub of the prop. Put it where one of the blades actually presses against the handle of the pipe wrench. Can also put a 4x4 under the prop so the blade presses against it on the way down while you put some leverage on the wrench you're using to loosen the nut. Make sure and use anti seize when you put the prop nut back on. Pull that nut every 15 hours or couple months, it won't be so bad next time.

 Re: help changing GTR prop
Put it in reverse. If electric, put ignition on and click to reverse. If hydraulic lock in reverse ( if it doesn't have the lock, get someone to hold it tight).
I use a breaker bar on the shafts nut and rubber mallet. You should not need a pipewrench or anything else.
Any prop on a hex shafts does not get tighter when it hits stuff.

 Re: help changing GTR prop
pipe wrench doesn't fit around the hub of a 3 blade gtr prop though.

 Re: help changing GTR prop
Use a good ratchet strap and hook the blade on the prop. Then wrap the strap around the lower unit several times and hook it so it won't move. The strap should hold the prop so you can remove the nut. It has to be a good strap. One of those thin ass ones won't work. This is how I have done it several times on an old style lower unit. You can even do it on the water.

 Re: help changing GTR prop
Squeeze your reverse lever down and wedge something in the space at the front (I use a hex shaft screw driver) and it locks the reverse Stops shaft from spining
