Hammer vs Bigblade 37 EFI w/ mods
Has anyone had experience with comparing these props? I have an Excel 1854SWV F4 with a 37EFI Gatortail I recently put heads, a cam, BPS Exhaust and a tuner in ( BPS Barracuda Kit). I'm just debating on the pros and cons of the hammer vs the big blade. I usually run w/ 2 guys a dog and gear. I do however need to run about 20 minutes in deep water to get to the shallows where I hunt ( river system). Thanks

How many Rpms are you turning? I would go with a hammer if you run much mud in those shallows.

Re: Hammer vs Bigblade 37 EFI w/ mods
My son runs a Hammer on his 1851 Excel f4, gets mid thirties and carrys a load really well. BB did ok but he couldn't run motor at WOT with out hitting the rev limiter, and it didn't carry load as well, took longer to plane boat. Hammer seems to wear a bit better than the BB in the sandy condition we run in. His motor has the 40/48 gear set running thru a 40" prop shaft.

Best un modified prop= hammer
Worked BB is outstanding. However I've seen quite a few broken recently.
I run my hammer 99% of the time.

Hammer isn't a fast prop, but it's not made for that. It's made to plane off fast, carry a load, and eat in the shit. It does all that excellent.

Cam needed to turn the hammer? My stock BB is running 4600 on my GTR considering ordering another new prop

I've run a hammer and a BB, both allowed me to hit the rev limiter at 4350. Hammer more speed, and mudded better with a better load carrying. BB reached the rev limiter faster.

I only run 31 ish empty with a hammer but all around its a super versatile prop that will take a ton of abuse.

Is you motor fully built TPerk? I don't have a cam just heads and carb. Buddy supposedly is running one on his MB with the same set up at 4300 RPMs.

I could do a lot more speed wise but haven't gained my confidence back in big blades.

Re: Hammer vs Bigblade 37 EFI w/ mods
I'm running level 3 on my PD with a hammer and I'm same speeds at TPerkins. Average unloaded or very light load is 31, best I've seen was 33. Still need a little more work on the blade though. Definitely not a speed prop, but it'll beat the BB out the hole and pulling a load....if you have the motor. I've seen some guys try it on stock GTR's and liked them okay til they hit some nasty stuff. You gotta remember this is a big, heavy, thick ass blade.

Re: Hammer vs Bigblade 37 EFI w/ mods
Hammer on a 35GTR, heads, mikuni, and bps exhaust, on a 18x46 with a hook, 4350 rpm max 28-30 mph deep water, feels like I actually gain speed when hitting the mud but haven't gps'd it in the mud, 2 people, 1 dog, large yeti, and gear.
