 Bending the skeg on Mudbuddy?????
I'm tired of the tiller tourque from my mudbuddy. The skeg is already bent from the factory. What's the best way to bend it a little more. Should it be heated a little or just muscled over with a large crescent wrench? Anybody else done this?

I use a large pipe wrench with a long pipe. I put a rag on the skeg and put the wrench on it.

befor you go bending the skeg. Have your tried position weight differently in the boat? (with out if affecting your speed)

Grab a wrench and go to town. They're not always bent enough

Trim down a little bit. Find that sweet spot and the the tiller torque is minimal. What motor do you have??

Re: Bending the skeg on Mudbuddy?????
I have a 70lbs battery in front on the left and 6 gallon fuel tank on the right. 50lb battery inback on left. It's the same with both batteries in the rear. Adding my 200 lbs son does change anything either. If he sits in front on the deck or just a little in front of me. I have to make a little ajustment and see how it goes. Thanks for the input.

Re: Bending the skeg on Mudbuddy?????
Hey guys I got it working good now. I used a pipe wrench and cheeta pipe. I bent the skeg another inch and it works perfectly. No torque problem. Almost stays centered on it's own. Much easier on my arm. Thanks for the advice.

Re: Bending the skeg on Mudbuddy?????
I would have recommended mounting the motor about 1" off center toward the starboard and adjusting it from there. This has been the most effective way of eliminating tiller torque for me. Bending the skeg is the last option to take, it weakens the metal and can come out of adjustment when you strike objects at speed.

Re: Bending the skeg on Mudbuddy?????
you know i read that when i mounted my motor. i called kevin and he said it didnt matter that much. i think i offset it anyway. with a smaller boat it seems to help more than a bigger boat.

Re: Bending the skeg on Mudbuddy?????
Ill be bending mine this weekend. When full throttle the hdr tillrr handle wants to move starboard. Thinking more bend of the skeg port side should help.

Re: Bending the skeg on Mudbuddy?????
My skeg was bent about prefect from factory. I have had the bolts loosen from vibration and it causes really bad tiller torque. Make sure those bolts are tight, lock tight isn't a bad idea either, before you bend it. If you do bend it, it shouldn't take much bend so don't get crazy, do a little bit at a time until you get it how you like it.
