would a single trim tab to the trick
I have a 18/60 GTR boat with a aluminum blind built on hit. 35 GTR motor with stage one kit on it. I know I'm a little heavy in the rear. Would a single power trim tab in the middle of boat hurt me on cavitation to the motor? I only want it for help to get up on plane, afterwards i have no need for it. i thought id mount as high as i could to try to help with mud /debris from hanging up on it. Am I crazy or does someone have another suggestion Thanks

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
Have seen a single on a 20/60 with twin motors. Had a single Lenco place between the motors. Sorry don't have a picture.

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
try welding a couple beads first... if that doesnt create the lift you need then play with a trim tab....

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
Would it help to fab one big one all the way across? That way it's like still have a flat bottom boat? Or would that interfere with the motor?

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
Prod rive hulls have about a 1.5" lip all the way across the transom.... seems to work well.

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
I have took a 1/2 think aluminum plate and cut it 3x3" then cut it with a band saw to make it like a wedge. Then weld it to the bottom of your hull. This make a wold of difference.
And there is nothing to get hung up on.

Experiment with wood and epoxy first, to make sure. Otherwise, it's a wild guess what will work.

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
Phowler boats have about a 1-1/2" lip across the back. A very small change in the angle makes a huge difference. A 1/2" change takes me from bow up and plowing to running dead flat.

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
THANKS ALL FOR RESPONDING TO MY MESSAGE. HAD SOME ISSUES LOGIN BACK ON. MY BOAT I HAVE IS A GTR 18/60 AND IT HAS A ANGLE CUT BOTTOM ON TRANSOM AT THE WATER LINE. I ASUME TO ALLOW MUD TO FLOW BACK UNDER OR KEEP MUD FROM BUILDING UP IN REVERSE. COULD THAT HOLD ME BACK FROM GETTING UP ON PLANE?

I've used the metal putty. It easy to form last a really long time and is still not permanent.

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
I had the same issue when I built my hull. So I got with Bayouboy and copied some of his wedges. If you look close, you can see them at the back of the boat when I had it flipped over to put on gator glide. IMG_2060.PNG IMG_2411.JPG IMG_2566.JPG

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
But I could never get it right. The one in the middle would channel water down on the prop and it would run like crap. So I removed the middle one and kept the two outside ones. But again it never did run right, too much bouncing. So I took out my trusty plasma cutter and went to work.

I took a piece of 3/16 ( which was my floor) and spliced it in. to do this, I had to be very carful as to not create a hook in the hull. I took a straight edge and tacked it every so often to hold it. Then I would run the weld out on the inside for a little bit. Recheck with straight edge. Kept doing that till it was done. Then ran bead on the outside. Took flap disc and sanded down the welds so that its flat like the bottom of the hull. When doe, you couldn't tell on the bottom where it was spliced. Pained it back up and done. Now I have a small lip that I used to fine tune and she runs like a spotted ape.

Banded Millard That's a beautiful job you did. Little out of my league. But may be the direction I have to go also.

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
Damn talk about old thread. By adding the plate it helped with everything. No more bouncing, and I can trim up whatever I want now. I have sold the PD and now have a Tiller Yamaha 70 and sport V that I swap out. If I would have known then what I know now, I never would have build that boat with the angel in the transom.

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
Banded, how does your boat handle with the outboard? I am looking to do something similar with my boat, swap out to an outboard for summertime and go back to the MM for hunting. My boat also is a flat bottom square chine and slides like crazy with the MM. curious how it handles with the outboard

Re: would a single trim tab to the trick
Like a rocket. No issues. Use to swap out outboard and Prodrive. Then I sold the PD and put the Yamaha 70 on it.
