I have two questions that should be able to get answered here (Call MB, I know, but Micah wasnt in when I called, gone til Monday). Since you cant get a bigger bottom gear on a Mini HD due to the hole in the outdrive, but can get a top gear, does adding 2 teeth on the top have the same effect of 2 on the bottom? I would assume so. Also, what kind of ballpark price are we talking on a gear? I would change it myself. Would I have to get a new belt to? Thanks for the help! |

it depends which way you want to go. if you add teeth to the bottom the raito will be lower. if you add them to the top it will go higher. if subtract them from the top it will be like adding them to the bottom, and vise versa. if you cant get a bigger gear on the bottom that means you want to lower the gear raito. (i think thats what you want to do). you will need to remove teeth ie smaller gear on the top. but you dont need to remove as many as you would add to the bottom. a change on the smaller end has more effict than the bigger end. it has to do with the compounding of tthe gear raito. one tooth on the small end could be as many as 3-5 on the big end, depending on the raito to begin with. as for price, it depends on which motor you have. i have a mini with no clutch. it wouldnt cost much to change. guessing 30 40 dollars. i dont remember what the clutch gears look like. they may be more. does your mini have a clutch? as for the belt, maybe. it depends how much adjustment you have to play with and how much you change the gear. this is a leinth issue only. the amount of teeth on the belt has no effict on the raito. |
