 Short shaft on 21" transom
Anyone ever run a short shaft 27hp PD on a 21" transom? Got my first MM from Bobby in La. today. I'm all fired up to get it mounted on my 18 ft 54" bottom jon boat. I could cut the transom down but want to try it first. Conditions we run in are from 6"-24" of water and smartweed. Don't plan at this time to do any mud crawling. This setup will be used come fall to get to those spots that before we either walked into or used a plastic layout boat. Really excited about this. Lynn

I dont think you will get the performance out of it on a 21" transom

Re: Short shaft on 21" transom
I just mounted a short shaft 27 hp pro drive on a boat with 16 inch transom. Didn't run well at all. The foot sat too low in the water. I mounted a 4 inch transom spacer that came with my boat to run long shaft motors about 30 minutes ago. I will let you know how it does when I get a chance to run it. I will try and post pics also.

Thanks for the replies. We have always ran this boat on a lake and sometimes it can get alittle rough. Anyone make a bracket to bolt on the outside of the transom? Lynn

If you need a high transom, then you MuST buy a tall transom motor. Short- 16 Long - 19-21

Re: Short shaft on 21" transom
This is gonna sound really stupid, but I mounted that short transom Pro Drive on a 20 inch transom because the foot sat too deep in the water and it would barely get on step with me and a buddy in the boat. It wouldn't trim up near enough. Now it runs MUCH better than it did when the boat had a 16 inch transom. Tiller handle sits just a bit high while driving sitting down with the boat planed out, but is perfect for driving standing up. It will plane 3 guys over 200 pounds no problem now. Will also get down and dig in the mud if needed.

Re: Short shaft on 21" transom
Thanks for the relpies. We got the motor mounted yesterday. The trim has 14" of travel from top to bottom. At the weight of the motor we sure won't be taking it on an off. Duramax: It sure looks to me like it will work perfect. Hoping post some pictures after the weekend. Lynn
