 Re: loer unit trouble
I'm curious... How many hrs do you have on the motor? Do you grease it everyother time you take it out? And what type of water do you run in most of the time?
I have 126 hrs on my 36 pd and never had a problem with it... My 2 suggestions is change lower unit oil, and grease the hell out of it and try to work it around... R simply use the adjustment knob located next to the lever you pull down to unlock the rachet it may be set too tight( happened to my brother).. Let me know what it is when you find out!

 Re: loer unit trouble
Loosen the tension knob.
And there is no reason to grease the lower unit every other time you take it out. Every 25 hrs at the minimum.

 Re: loer unit trouble
Do you mean it's hard to turn, or it's hard to put into reverse?
BFenn couldn't put his into reverse because the plates were rusted together (or something like that anyhow). Come to find out there was a recall on his & Peck sent him a new one. Might be 2 completely different things here, but just throwin it out there for ya.

 Re: loer unit trouble
has it been a while since you put it in reverse? the plates are probably rusted together.

 Re: loer unit trouble
Does the reverse pin pull down easy and the lower unit won't spin? Do yo run salt water?

 Re: loer unit trouble
Put the skeg into a bind on something that will hold it. Up against the transom. Yank the handle while holding the pin down. Might spray some breakfree or the likes between the plates. Open the clutch cover and spray the plates down. DO NOT spray the clutch itself........ Bout all you can do aside from taking it apart. The 2 plates in the reverse are probably sjust stuck together. Nothing else there that can be keeping it from rotating.

 Re: loer unit trouble
Like Poker1 said its got to be that your reverse plate is froze up. try what he said along with loosing the 5/16 bolts that hold the bottom reverse ring on a couple turns (theres like 10 of them NOTE: DO NOT mess with the 4 smaller ones closer in, they hold on the upper ring!!! if it spins your screwed and will have to break it down) then rock the power head back and forth. This will give you slack between the revese plates and should break them free. Once there broken free shoot wd40 under the clutch and start rotating it around until it smooths out. Regrease the shit out of it, then tighten it back up a little on the bolts. rotate some more then repeat until the bolts are back tight and the revese is working properly. More than likely its going to take some time to work it smooth again. good luck.

 Re: loer unit trouble
Again, check with PD, as there were some that were recalled, & could be a free replacement part.

 Re: loer unit trouble
Sounds like it wasnt properly greased and salt water got in there and it seized up while it sat up for a month. Either find a way to get the release pin down and put some ass into it to try and break it free, or pull the power head and break it all down. Personally I would pull the power head and get everything cleaned up good.. Salt water is a bitch whore.

 Re: loer unit trouble
The lower unit oil is a different thing all together. Change it if you need to, then work on getting the foot to spin around for reverse. Sounds like a few people have had your issue and were able to get it fixed with a little work.

 Re: loer unit trouble
There are 3 zerk fittings you need to grease for the reverse. One for the pull pin and two on the plate above and attached to the pull pin. Those two are centered on the back of the motor with one on the top and one on the bottom of the plate. Your best chance at an easy fix is to take Bayouboy's advice exactly. If that doesn't work, you will have to break everything down. But obviously the first step is to free up the pull pin.

 Re: loer unit trouble
Make sure you grease both reverse fittings with two shots each, engage reverse one click, two shots each zirk, another reverse click and so on until reverse has been turned 360 degrees.
I end up greasing reverse a few times a year. Nothing worse than trying to engage reverse with no grease.
