Post subject:  New prop size!

I've had a bad day at work and come home excited to see the new prop I ordered has arrived. Looking at the prop, I think it looks small. Put calipers on it and it is 1/4in smaller in diameter then stated size.

So my question, before I call the manufacturer and rip them a new one (bad day at work  ), is a 10in prop supposed to be 10in when new or is 9 3/4in usual?

I know a 1/4in can make a big difference in performance, but have never measured a new prop.

My MB prop says 12.25 and IS 12.25. I would say it should be 10"

I would say call the manufacture and ask before calling them and freaking out. Where did you order it from?

I don't want to throw them under a bus without knowing the facts, or giving them a chance to make it right!!

I was just curious what prop you ordered. I would def call and see what's up before getting too upset.

If i were you i would freak out for no apparent reason. Sometimes it just makes a guy feel good. Try smashing something also. It seems to help me after a long day at work.

So, after freaking out and smashing the new prop with a sledge hammer  , I called MB and was told it was normal for a 10 x 5 prop to be actually 9 3/4in diameter new and the diameter didn't really matter if the cup was intact.

Just for fun I called GD and asked them what diameter their 10 x 5 props were, after a short pause, I was told 10in. Kind of reminds of the time my friend asked the waitress how big their quarter pound burger was. After a short pause she said, "it's a quarter of a pound sir"

 all i can say is that yes they are a little shorter with the tiger props because the cupping is in the outside edge of the blade and they account for that. where as on the big blade all the cupping is on the trailing edge so the measurment from edge to edge in going to be right on 12 1/4"
