Post Grease ozzing from the drive shaft ??
I have a little bit of what looks/feels like greese coming out from the drive shaft in the pictures below and was wondering if this is normal or a problem ??

it is from the join farthest from the prop or closeest to the belt drive.

Thanks,

Neff, yours is normal, it's just the thinner grease oozing from the heat.
ODG, your housing is cracked.

Can that be welded or does the whole thing need to be replaced?

He also posted it on MB, & got more detailed answers. According to Andy (BoatDr) it has to be replaced. I initially thought the same about having it welded, until he said the only 2 options both included replacing it. It's actually 2 pieces pressed together & apparently he must've tried to repair one before, rather than replace it & it was a no-go.

Where are you located and what do you have? Im trying to decide on getting a longer shaft for my 35, if i do I will be looking to get rid of my current one if you are interested and looking.

I pulled the drain plug on the shaft and released the excess grease which helped allot. I'm going to run it for a while and see if it keeps up. Team Camo was right and the thread on the MB forum is much more detailed. I hope this all works out without any substantial change required. I use JB Weld on everything !!
C-u on the water !!
