I am new to the forum my names Ben and i live in Utah, just found it while searching things about mud motors. I bought a mud motor from a guy a year ago that he made, I ran it a few times before it started to have some problems. The biggest problem was that when he threaded this shaft he made this threads to long and they went into the shaft tube. So short story first time hunting out of it the prop tighten against the tube and stop the motor. So after all the bull I welded the prop straight to the shaft. Another problem was the surface plate above the prop it was welded on wrong so while running it I had to lift up on the handle with a lot of force to keep the prop in the water. It came with a 8 hp I took that off bought a 11 hp now took that off and just waiting for my 16 hp I just bought. I have cut the surface plate off but I don't know what angle it needs to be. I pulled the shaft out and bought a new one at work and when cut a key way and thread it this week. Replaced the bushing, it was way worn out. So anybody know the angle the surface plate should be? Thanks for the help. |

It should be close to parrallel of the boat bottom when running at the right position, to keep the prop in the water, there should be a tab on the end of the cavitation plate that you bend up/down to get it positioned correctly ( about 1-4 inches from the surface on plane.) |
