I'm in the process of building a longtail motor from ebay plans. One of their recomendations is to either use a 7x4 or a 7x5 prop for the 6.5hp engine. Just wondering which would be a better match for my boat (14' jon) ? I wont be running any large warter , just small shallow streams, plus I'm not looking for any amt. of speed, just somthing up to 10mph. max. Thanks

Get the 7x4, you can probly forget 10 mph with that set-up also.

You need to look into atleast a 13 hp engine.

Otter, check out our website www.swamprattmudmotors.com We built a 6.5 hp with a 6.5x4 prop and got 10 mph on a 14 ft. jon boat carrying 1 adult(200lbs),1 child(90lbs), lab(75 lbs) and 5 dozen decoys. With the jon boat its all about the floatation, with the same motor on our Otter Stealth boat we got 8 mph because it isn't as bouyant. Good luck
