man i never seen someone so brand loyal dayummm,,,,almost as bad as salemen!!!

yall fools would have been heartbroken to see that 23hp old school godevil pull out that gatortail at the end of the season....

boy i wish i would have taped that! but i would be the first to agree that some do better in certain shit then others...still aint no mud motor bad as a good ole mud boat!!! but for what they do, they do it well....they are very versatile1

on another note,,,,,my main concern is to figure out why they blow out! im thinking the cavitation plate and or prop is the issue here...

Post subject:  Re: duckduckboom

to much on the throttle, working the tiller to fast, or just bad mud. i was sitting next to a gator tail today and he was blowing out at the same time i was. it is gonna happen

yeah,,,i think it could cause light boat i can hit the rev limiter...i may try that...

Post subject:  Re: duckduckboom

however, running a higher pitch prop you will lose some whole shot and load carrying. Test it out and let us know thou

@craig,,,

if you think that a gatortail or prodrive can out do a mudboat,,,a good one...i want some of what you are smoking....

i built one and sold it 3 years ago with a 4.3 v-6 and i would ride across lake boudreaux and followed by my cousin in his 20x8ft wide aluminum hull with a 150 yamaha, then tie up to him and thats whith 4 peeps with him and me and another in my boat all our hunting shit and drag him through shit like you were in yesterday in montegute...

unless there is something seriously different about the mud in montegute and boudreaux, a gatortail or prodrive has no chance in the mud against a big mud boat!!

i used to go bust tranausess' for my podnas on liners canal and was able to run through shit that pigs can run on and run down pigs...after we were done we had enough momm's in da boat to build a blind...that thing was pretty much unstoppable other then if you broke down...

Yeah...judging by how conventional mudboats have went the way of the clap...only to be replaced by surface drive type mudmotors, I'd say you're correct.

Although a mud boat may out perform a surface drive in MUDDY WATER, it WILL NOT out perform them in pure mud...and is the exact reason everybody and their brother has scraped the conventional mudboat....myself included.

As for the mud being different between the 2 locations, I'm not sure. Perhaps the mud you were used to running around Lake Boudreaux is of the same composition as the mud on the 'water side' of that bay we were in yesterday. The go-devils and pro-drives had no problem starting and stopping in it. Now the other side was a different story...only one brand was able to start and stop at will...just ask the other guys who were there.

FYI...I'm not sure how long or how much experience you have with these engines in terms of actual on-site comparisons in MANY different environments. As I've done for many, we could easily assemble today for a side by side comparison of my GTR against any "big mud boat" in this exact location while the water is low. Just say the word... ;)

man i wish i had it still to show you,,,,in no way will i ever believe that a gator tail or prodrive or the baddest or mud motors the long as mudbuddy will ever out do a powerfull mud boat...

i seen a subaru have to go play tow boat to a bunch of godevils, and i seen a long tail go devil do circles arond a gator tail..

i no way will i ever say a gator tail is not bad ass i the mud,,,as they are one of the best in pure mud...

but to outdo a big mudboat i would have to say different.

what i do agree with you on is not all mud is equal,,,i got into some with my prodrive froggin with 3 people in the boat and had no issues...but then i got into some with just me that took me 20 mins to get out..

How far you can trim. Say if you are trim down 30 degrees on your motor alone and with a 20 degree transom then you are trimming 50 degrees total

As for as the mudboat v's surface drive thing!!

The mud we was in yesterday a big mud boat would have a hard time!! Their was no water to mix in!! Once blown out it's over!! Now when it comes to cutting ditches or lilies power is the key!! Now if I launch my Gtr and jump a 20' wide levee guest what you loose!! Lol

There is a time and place for every motor to shine. The thick muck, GT has the advantage fo sho. its impressive. They have done there R&D homework, especially in the prop department. PD pretty much runs a GDSD prop. My motor was a beast with stumpy's prop, I know first hand on what can be. With the few modifications i made to mine, it seems to do better than most. Especially on my tank of a boat.

I've run a GTR and to each there own. There just not for me. I can honestly say that down here the Gtr was getting pulled just as much as any of the other motors. There not Gods gift to the mudmotor world by no means.
