Post subject:  Gator-Tail Prop 9in Diameter

Ok took the Prop I got from bayouboy and dropped it off at Baumans in Houston Monday morning at 8am. Asked them to make this prop 9 1/4 diameter and put the factory pitch back into it. They said it would be done wednesday so I called them and it was done. Picked it up this evening and looked good. Let me know what y'all think. Only thing im kinda worried about is that it looks more like a GDLT prop and the cup looks kinda funny! What y'all think? Made it for the refuges so I can be legal.

Why would you want a 9 inch prop?

It's gonna be a turd.

Refuges have prop limitations?

That may not even step the boat.

On the FEDERAL REFUGE they restrict hp and prop size. Into the refuge boundaries. It sucks but everywhere inside the boundaries the was is deep enough except in a few areas you could run an outboard. Heck when I talked to Gator-Tail the said as much as the 23the struggles turning the stock prop if you cut it down to a 9 in diameter it would get up on step faster just not have alot of topspeed. We will see this weekend cause im gonna test it out. Since there isn't alot of 23's out there that haven't trued to do this so we will see. Sure there will be bugs to work out I understand that and am expecting that.

Gonna try it out and see and go from there.

Looks they they put a lot of cup in the blades. Try it and go from there. U should be able to spin it 7000+ Rpms. Will u have to travel very far wif the prop?

Heard rumor from pretty reliable source that all of it's gonna be like the pay ponds out there this year. $10 no matter where you go on that specific refuge.

Yep, dead serious. Only on that one though, the others are still the same as before. Reminds me why I don't hunt out there.

I got a little boat for taht area, i'll be hunting it this year for sure.....14' boat with a 25, and keestan is building alittle refuge boat so we'll be ready, they killed to many birds out there not to try it, guess i;'ll have to hit up some of the ol' spots

Post subject:  Re: Gator-Tail Prop 9in Diameter

I got several spots out "there" that is crazy good all season. Runs about a mile and a half tops deep water and its a blood bath. So ill play by there rules.

Thats what i'm thinking! Been hunting out there for years, went hunting with an idiot one time and didn't play by the rules and he got in some shit.....But we did mow their asrse down that morning

I have a feeling you will be bouncing on the rev-limiter.

You might want to get a taller gear ratio.

Author:  CLICKSTER [ Wed Aug 31, 2011 8:29 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Gator-Tail Prop 9in Diameter

I hope I hit the rev limiter then I can run 3/4 throttle. That's fine with me. Like I said I hunt there about 25a times a season and will run my normal prop everywhere else. Just to let y'all know ill have about 1000a pounds in my crappy ass boat so if I hit my rev limiter ill tilt down and bogged that bitch out!

Not only the hp and props.....clam and star lakes $10 on 1st come basis and every hunter limited to only bringing 50 shells per hunt....thats info from the Game Warden....dont know if it has been written in stone yet

Post subject:  Re: Gator-Tail Prop 9in Diameter

i think alot of you are going to be wrong. i dont think it will turn-up that much do to you having to run the prop sub-surface. sure it will turn up if you run half prop but the diameter probably wont allow you to do that, therefore the cup will keep the rpm down. but could be wrong

Could you pitch the prop heavy to make up for the lost diameter?

Depending on how many people i am hunting with is what i base how many shells i need to bring. Me, Andrew, and my brother not very many shells cause we are all good shots. If i bring my buddy Mark well i need to bring another box of shells for him

Post subject:  Re: Gator-Tail Prop 9in Diameter

I don't know too much about MM props, but when I was racing R/C boats, if you went down on diameter of the prop you have to add more pitch to compensate for the new blade length. This helped with keeping revs right where we needed them to get max performance and top speed out of the small motors we ran.
If not RPMs will be very high because you have less prop digging in the water. Adding more cup to the tips will also cause RPMs to drop.

I'd suggest you be very careful the 1st few times you run it so you don't over-rev.
Doesn't GT run like a 12"od prop? Taking 3" out of it, you could possibly add 2-3 pitches to it.

Post subject:  Re: Gator-Tail Prop 9in Diameter

Havent ran yet but, when i do i'll let yall know. But Hoyt said the 23GTR has trouble getting to the right rpm's with the stock prop with 11x10 and i put the stock 35GTR which is a 12x10. with the stock 23GTR 11x10 prop i was only able to get 3600 to 3700 rpms with my mods on my boat by myself running 24mph. so with this new prop 9x10 with the cup it has i should be close to 4000 to 4100 by myself and around 3700 loaded down with a hunt load and 3 guys total. i'll see friday i'm running it then and will let yall know!

Post subject:  Re: Gator-Tail Prop 9in Diameter

:) Sitting in the marsh now on a island I ran my boat up onto. I was testing my prop and videoing and ran ashore. :)
But the test run so far has went good. At 3800 rpm its running 24 with me and my decoys. That's trimmed all the way up. In mud trimmed down does good also just not as much torque as a new factory prop but it does push fine. Ill see tomorrow also. when I have another guy in with me hunting. Ran shallow on the way in and ran 3980-4000@ 26mph.

good #'s......rumor is that Watson's propeller shop in groves, tx cut two 9"props in last couple weeks.....1 of them was running 24mph with modded 23hp and other one hasn't reported

Mike does some really good prop work, and is the ONLY place I ever bring any of my props. I'm actually running an old prop right now that was worn down to about 11" diameter. I had him turn it up to a 13p & put some cup back in it. 28-29mph @ 4100-4250 rpm.

Post subject:  Re: Gator-Tail Prop 9in Diameter

ok ran it with hunt load(3 dozen decoys, a sled, 3 guns, 3 blind bags, stools, and me and two boys) I'm 215, son is 135 and other boy 100. at take off it was slow but once it reved up to around 3200 it wasnt to bad. topped out at 3500rpms and only ran about 20. ran in mud also and has no ass at all. went with my old prop and noticed a big difference. it will work though if i need it to run the refuge.
