Question on belt types need some help
I just picked up two MB hd frames with out motors. I noticed right away that there were two different types of cogged pulleys. 1 has straight teeth the other had double vee teeth. Just wondering why the differant pulleys? Was it an engineering change or was there an advantage to using one over the other? 1 more question which one is better?? I have spare belts for each type....................

the straight coggs are a gates poly chain GT2. This is what they are using now. The vee is a goodyear belt that they had quite a few issues with.

Re: Question on belt types need some help
The Goodyear belts were nothing but trouble & gave MB a bad rap for a while. The newer style uses a Gates poly chain that's made out of Kevlar. It's 1000 x better.

Re: Question on belt types need some help
Great thanks for the info I will go with the straight cogged belt and toss the other pulleys in the scrap bin.
It looks to me like the prices of pulleys are fairly expensive from MB but I can get the same pulleys through browning gear for a whole lot less and they seem to be the same thing? Can anyone verify it? Can't see a differance in them, same number of teeth dia. etc.....
Again thanks for the info! Smoke

Re: Question on belt types need some help
Buy them through browning, martin or a company like BDI or Motion Industries. The belt or the pulley should have specs. on it that can be cross-referenced.
