Post subject: | Prop Help 35 hp GTR |
I have a 35 hp stage 1 GTR and have tried three different props. I am still looking for something a little different than what i have tried. Stock prop - Best speed (30 mph), 2nd best hole shot, Worst prop for wear. Mud buddy Tiger prop - Slowest prop (27 mph, really starts to fall off with a load compared to GTR prop), worst hole shot, Best for wear b/c it is thicker. Three blade with added cup (not sure who made it) - Middle of the pack for speed (28 mph), best hole shot (Not a lot better than stock GTR prop, very small difference), not much thicker than GTR prop so wear is still going to be a problem. GTR prop performs best overall but its just to thin and cost to much for the amount of time i will get out of it. I don't think the mud buddy prop has enough pitch b/c i have to trim it down to where only 1/4 of the prop is out of the water so that i am not on the rev limiter. Either way if 1/2 or 1/4 of the prop is out of the water it still runs the same speed. Still don't understand why the hole shot is so bad??? I have to trim the prop further down than the GTR prop for it to even bit. I bought the mud buddy prop b/c it is thicker and need a prop that would last longer but since i have to trim it down so much farther when trying to get on plane than the GTR prop its probably going to get worn out just as fast. After all this basically what i am looking for is just a much thicker GTR prop. Does/Can Hopkins make a stock GTR prop but thicker??? Or does someone else have any other suggestions. |

![]() ![]() I had Baumann thicken the leading edge of the GTR blade for me. When I go play in the mud I put the thicker one on. If I'm running a load and need to make long runs, then stock goes on. By thickening up the blade (leading or trailing edges) You are reducing the RPM's your able to turn. So if your motor is not modded this may effect your performance more than a modded motor will see. I played with the props & went back & forth to Baumann testing & talking with Louis and his brother who does the work. After all tests I found that the best performing prop was the GTR big blade. (no surprise there) We even tested and added some pitch to a prop taking it from 11P to 12P. The modded motor was able to turn it but not at a high enough RPM. Some more R&D was needed. It would be interesting giving this prop to those that have heavily modded motors and see if they can hit 4000 + rpm's still keeping it below the rev limiter etc. |

If you want to tunr a higher pitch just put a different lower pulley on and give yourself some mechanical advantage! |

My GT wheel (new) ran 31.6 with 2 guys and normal boat crap and the MB Big blade ran 31, I bought the MB cause its thicker n can take more abuse when bowfishin near oyster reefs. Have you given hopkins a call?? |
