Post What about a 10X8 prop for the 23??????
So the 23 Mini uses an 11X10 prop and wanted to know what everyone thought about using a smaller prop like a 10X8. I know you would probably turn more RPM's so does that equal a faster top end and not as good on load carrying compared to the 11X10?? So tell me what y'all think!!

First of all, why would you want to drop down to such a small prop?

You won't gain at all right now, it will just gain RPM's and you won't be moving as much water.

Go with a taller gear ratio (smaller pulleys) and it will put more load on the engine, dropping RPM's and increasing the revolutions of the prop.

Personally, i think you will be right back where you started a few hundred in the hole... Not worth it IMO.
But, if you are dead set on it, make sure the prop you get is a true surface piercing prop and not a sub-surface longtail prop.

If anything with that gearing it will push a load better.

After a double check with the old GPS, I WAS WRONG!! It was set to Statute Miles and not Nautical Miles.
So it's 26 MPH!!

Would I have to regear if I went to a smaller prop?

Man only thing i can say is , you are CLUELESS. Gear reduction allows to turn more pitch/ cup etc......... Putting a smaller diameter and smaller pitch prop is going backwards completely. Your engine will turn more rpm's, your prop pitch being less will not accelerate like you think. If you running 26mph factory, shit you got a special one, run it like it is. I have a 24 with a 1.47:1 gear reduction turning the 35 godevil 12x12 prop at 24 mph. Biggest advantage is being able to turn a larger diameter/pitch in the mud, helps push more. Just my experience with my setup.

If it is running 26 leave it alone!

You will need a smaller bottom pulley to pull that prop.

I have ran a 10x9 and get about 400 more rpms with same load and same speed maybe a mph faster. Do notice that the motor wines up faster but doesn't plain out as fast.
