I run a heavy 19ft boat and yesterday by myself, I was turning 3850. That's with some mods too. When I added a 125 pound passenger and another 100 pounds in gear, I was running 3750. Prop is new. I can slap a brand new mudbuddy big blade(12.25x10) on the boat and be hitting the rev limiter of 4300 with either of those two loads above. The GD prop is smaller in diameter, so your answer must be the pitch of the prop (12x12 i believe) and cup on the blades. My hope is that when the GD prop wears down some, I'll still get good push and speed with it. I know when I lose a little off the BigBlade, my push and speed are poor. |

FTR - the GD 3 blade is 11" - GD calls it a 12 pitch - but I believe it is between 11 and 11.5 the GD 2 blade is a true 12" by 12 pitch made by Hopkins to GD specs.... Hopkins will sell you a custom pitch - but it will cost more money - but might be worth it.... A stock motor struggles to turn them on day one - but as they wear the speed and rpms climb as they hit their optimums - until they finally begin to loose speed and rpms go up significantly and they develop "prop lift" and want to pop out - especially the 3 blade after it is worn out... |

IF - you decide to bend them and many guys do especially if your gonna run the 3 blade - go in small 1/8" or less increments and 1/4" is about the most I would recommend.... Don't do it if you got a used 3 blade - used 3 blades have the most lift of all - or a reworked 3 blade is even worse.... But only do it if you are having trouble with a brand new 3 blade from GD.... FYI - the 2 blade has almost no lifting issues and throws a huge rooster tail in comparison to the 3 blade - you may wanna consider staying with the 2 blade.... |
