 skeg protector

Post skeg protector
I bought a used 18 x 48 Gatortail with a 35gtr and it had two different skeg protectors in the boat. They were not mounted on the motor just laying in the boat. Does anyone use these? They just bolt on to the existing skeg. Is this more for running in stumps? thanks
