When I took the nut off to get my prop off the threads was stripped . It took me a while to get the nut off, I had to tighting and loosening alot , I thought it was the pastic from the nut making it hard . What do they do about this?? It's a 35gtr Thanks. |

You can try to chase it with a die and see if that works. If there ain't enough material there I would imagine you need to replace it. |

Stainless nuts are good, But if you have a stainless shaft, you need to be aware of the proper lubricant required to use stainles on stainless... Or you will have corrosion issues. |

Robin2 on here works in the plants where they use stainless on stainless fasteners. He suggested Milk of Magnesia to lube the threads! |

yeah I just changed my prop this weekend. Put a new SS nut on it as provided by GT. The old one came off without much problem even after 83 hours of solid salt water use. Now the prop itself was a little worse for wear. haha. |

Depending upon where the threads are stripped... You may be able to cut the grooves back in it. I found this issue after removing my prop the night before installing a new one. I put the nut back on hand tightened then gave it a few turns with the wrench to tighten it up. 12 hours later it was seized on there & wouldn't budge! After some heat & cooling we were able to get the prop off it scarred the threads bad chased it and was able to run all weekend. Later changed out the output shaft to a 32" I'll take a macro picture later once I get back to the house. |

Are you sure it's the tread and not the nut!! Had some nuts that was really hard to get off but nothing was wrong with shaft |

Here's what my shaft looks like. We chased it and the nut does go on & off. However you can see we damaged some threads trying to remove the nut. The threads were damaged near the end of the shaft. We were using power tools and heat after we knew we screwed it up & needed to get it off to fix. I was able to chase the threads and remove the nut that disintegrated around the shaft. Ever since then been running a brass nut that Baumann Marine gave me. thread1.JPG thread2.JPG I am now running a 32" shaft & the stock shaft is in the garage. |

use a rethreading die not a cutting die. same thing on a tap use a rethreading tap not a cutting tap. there is a diff. |
