i am looking at buying a gator tail 35 we ran the motor not in the water a few days ago and it ran great no problems at all. Today we put it in the water , and when you put it in gear it makes a knocking noise in the lower unit. The noise is only in forward gear in reverse there is no noise. The belt seems to be a little loose, but it seems like there maybe more to the problem but i don't know. I need some help or comments on what this could be. The owner of the boat says it has been doing it since the motor had 6 hours on it. It runs fine dosent seem to hurt the performance of the boat just makes a real bad noise. Any help would be great. |

Sounds like the owner is possibly a dumbass for not getting it checked out vs just running it....or he is giving you a line of crap so you won't be alarmed and he can sell it. See if he has a tension guage and check the belt. Maybe one of the gtr guru's will chime in. |

Mine is doing the exact same thing only in forward. Its got about 35 hours on it and it started yesterday evening I'm not running anymore till I have it checked out. |

Run it like you stole itnaw bring it to gatortail your prop might be loose and belt it could be something simple |

Does it only do it when the clutch is engaged? In other words does it knock the whole time the motor is underway? How much play was in the belt? |

Check for a loose prop. |

This happend to a friend of mine and it turned out to be a belt problem. |
