Had my boat out at the camp all weekend with no problems as usual when just like that I jump in the boat try to pull out from the camp and WTF, no reverse! The handle just squishes down to the tiller. If I pump the handle it pulses in reverse but I'm sure this isnt good for anything. Once I got home I removed the back cover thinking There's a leak somewhere that possibly got air in the brake line or dumped the fluid but there is no sign of anything leaking and the brake fluid in the master cylinder is still full. Next I will try bleeding air from the system (didn't do that yet because i didn't have a wrench small enough) I was told to change the pads but this engine has a little over 50 hrs on it and the pads look relatively new but I ordered them anyway. Oh and its a 2011 with the lock on the reverse lever. Has anyone had this problem before? |

I've noticed on a couple of my friends motors that the pads whare quicker on the newer reverse systems. BUt if your handle worked before and now it goes all the way to the handle you may have air getting in somewhere or possibly in your lines. If there are no leaks like you say take your cover off and when you compress the handle see if your caliper moves at all. get back with the results. . Easy problem to diagnose |

Yep just tried bleeding the air out of the line for quite some time and nothing is happening. The fluid is barely oozing out couldnt even call it a drip. Guess I'll see if they would be kind enough to send me a kit W/O me having to drive for 2 1/2 hours for them to tell me this is the problem. |

I shouldn't have said it that way I didn't want it to sound like they wouldn't take care of me I just hate to make that drive for something so simple. I had no doubt they would help they have before, when I had engine trouble I drove up there and they fixed it on the spot and they did again. I talked to Hoyt this morning and by tomorrow evening I'll be installing new brake pads and a new master cylinder all in time to be back in the water this weekend. Thanks to the Gator-Tail crew and to all that chimed in to help. and @ Dozrya.. yep, Lafourche. |

That did it! Changed the master cylinder and the brake pads while i was at it. Good as new. As i was getting it all back together I was thinking.... Why couldnt they use a 2nd clutch mounted about where the caliper is because it would be the same basic idea all you need to do is stop the inner shaft on the rear end to engage the reverse and use a 3 way switch for forward neutral and reverse all right there you wouldnt have to hold anything just flip the switch. But I'm sure the guys at Gator-Tail would have thought of something like this already. Oh well thanks for the help guys. |
