Bottom Seal Leaking on a 32 PD
Well my bottom seal was leaking at Caddo. Not bad but enough to the reverse and all a little oily.
Well it goes back to the guy that changed it about 15 hours ago and he puts it on the dyno and cant make it leak.
I also wonder if its happening just after extended periods of running.
Anybody else had this problem.

Re: Bottom Seal Leaking on a 32 PD
If you talking about the bottom seal on the motor itself it is the same thing mine is doing. I had my seal changed out and sitting on the trailer and running in neutral or in gear it won't leak. It only starts when in the water and running hard. I cleaned the motor of good and watching it close it appears that the leak is not at the shaft and the rubber part of the seal but is actually leaking from the outside of the seal, the metal housing where it sits in the block.

Why did this get moved? This is about the lower seal on my engine not my lower unit. The seal on the bottom of the engine.

Re: Bottom Seal Leaking on a 32 PD
Ordered me a new seal and gonna pull it myself to see what the deal is. Hopefully its not cracked but I got to know for sure before my warranty runs out. If there is no crack I'm wondering if there is something I should put down before seating the seal back into the block. Maybe some type of gasket seal would work. I'm kinda thinking some of these motors are gonna leak no matter what after awhile.

Re: Bottom Seal Leaking on a 32 PD
Doing a little web surfing and found several suggestions of using a sealer like Permatex #2 when seating the pto seal. Seems this can be a problem area just like the case gasket for leaks.

Re: Bottom Seal Leaking on a 32 PD
Poker...That is some good shiat we use it on a daily basis for our seals on Allison Transmissions,Cat Engines and Detroit Diesel engines.Put you a thin coat on the OD of the seal and drive it in.Take your finger and smear the excess around the seal and housing.

Kool, then I'll give it a try and see. Waiting till I get the new seal to pull the old one. Got to make that "1 more run".

Re: Bottom Seal Leaking on a 32 PD
We talkin about the case gasket seal here? I think there was a pretty good thread on here about that. We had some Loctite experts on here about the right sealer. Red stuff I believe. I still have mine seaping a little bit and it only happens between 3500/4000 rpms. It's gotta be the vibration and block pressure cause them bolts come loose too over time. I have a Briggs place that just got the right gasket and they'll fix me up for $300. I might wait though.... I only lost half a quart all of last season anyway. Unless that shite is spittin, I'm going to leave as is I think.

I had a suggestion, but Poker and Coastal were thinking along the same lines as me. Try that.

Re: Bottom Seal Leaking on a 32 PD
Pulled my motor and got the pto seal changed. Didn't see any cracks or obvious damage. But it does look like my seal is seated deeped than the one I pulled out. Hopefully that was the problem. I sealed it with Permatex for good measure. Pulled the lower unit while I was at it to get all the oil out as it ran down into everything. Course the bottom fell out before I could get it all back together and it's raining like a mofo again.

Well she is back together and purring like it should. I'll give it a shakedown tomorrow and hopefully the leak has been plugged.

Re: Bottom Seal Leaking on a 32 PD
Well it ended up being a cracked lower case. Crack is in the recessed area between the oil plug and shaft. At the top of the recessed area. The leak got alot worse and I was finally able to find where it was. Only leaked when running hard and the block heated up good like Stumpy allowed. Dropped the boat off at H&W and they are going to arrainge the warranty repair for me. Hope it don't take to long.
