@ $135 for a prop, its going to have to stay. if 4mph is all i get, then so be it. im going to try the 1:1 gear and see what happens today. i had strange looks and some thumbs up when i took the interstate to go fishing (before the motor). ol stinkin lincoln's paint has faded so it doesnt matter lol i put a 302 long block in the truck with the upper intake off. very versatile car ![]() |

LOL! I bet if you get some black death stickers that would put it at LEAST 15 mph.... I've always heard from people that built there own surface drives that there is a lot of tweaking with gear ratio and prop selection. Thats dedication... reminds me of the days when I had an 8' white inflatable with a 5hp merc outboard to go duck hunting with... what used to take me 2 1/2 hours to run now takes me less than 15 minutes. |

Post subject: | Re: homemade surface drive |
heres a thought- the paddle thats under the boat thats attached to the pedals inside- maybe thats causing alot of drag |

No. Two different props. A lt prop is made to run submersed. |

Post subject: | Re: homemade surface drive |
I've seen a couple homemade motor frames come thru here, and I must say you get a A for effort on that one. As far as why it wont run: 1) your chain (and metal plate in front of it) is about a foot and a half too long. Take a look at any of the belt drive/production models, the belt box is about 5"-6" above the bottom of the boat (and not draggin in the water, causing a disturbance to the prop). and 2) as Autogate man said that is the wrong prop. A longtail prop is made to run on a longtail (submerged and not geared down). |

I'm thinking just a couple things about these videos: no parental supervision with big dreams; great combination for either sucess or disaster. You have had one of those "I have an idea" moments. |
