how many hours of life would you give a short tail prop on average? i know its a pretty general question, but im interested in a mud motor with 108 hours and im pretty sure its the original prop.

You'll need a new one. They dont last long with frequent use in the mud.

Have you ran it yet? It could be enough to get you through the season as is.

Prop wear has a lot to due with the operator, location and stick time. imo

Down here in South La, I've worn a prop down in as little as a week (or 20hrs) and I'm talking shot, It wouldn't even get on step in the shallows.

Don't get me wrong, its fun as hell rootin it up. But it can definitally put a hole in your pocket. I find myself pushing the boat a little more these days rather than eating my way out and wearing down a perfectly good prop.

What bayouboy says. I have put a serious dent in a prop's performance in a couple of hours (rookie move) and have also seen props last guys three or four seasons...all depends on what you put it through.

Find out what the original measurement of the prop was, measure it, and check for wear. Also look at the edges that are supposed to have cup to see if it is still there.

Finally, if that motor is still on a hull, test drive it.

the motor ive bought has a new prop the motor i was goin to buy had some wear but im good. but i was told and common sense will say that sand no mans friend unless ur in combat
