I have a prop on my longtail 15ish hp. that Im not getting any bite at all in mud, its fine in grass but just spins and doesnt dig in at all in mud. I cant find any brand markings on it and all I know about the dimensions are that its 8x?, no idea how to measure pitch and its not stamped anywhere. Its not worn down and in pretty good condition. Is this a sympton of the cheap props I see for sale on ebay? Thanks again for letting me bombard you guys with questions.

Its a symptom of a 15ish hp motor, it dont have the ass it takes to push a boat across mud... been there and done that.

that may be true on the smaller motor, however i was only getting about 1500 rpms, will more rpms help out at all or will it just spin in place faster?

Will it get above that RPM range when cruising in deep water?

You more than likely have a throttle cable problem..

The same range in deep water. I have the throttle attached to the governor spring but I guess I need to take it straight off the carb. I can feel the engine put out more power whenever I stick the prop in water or mud to maintain those rpms. Right now the boat 1436 will barely plane with this setup, hopefully more rpms will change that I'm just worried about blowing out the engine. But also does more rpms do anything to help you get unstuck? After a certain point does more rpms just mean it has no bite?

if yur govener is set right it will keep you from blowing the engine up. thats what they are there for. why is yur cable attached to yur govener spring? you should actually have a throttle lever on it to attach it to. 1500 rpms is crap. you should be getting more than that. closer to probably 3200-3600 rpms. wide open throttle and open water. what do you get wide open out of water?
