I have a 1448 lowe big jon and a 18 hd mini on it. I bought the motor this winter took it out and it ran great, couldnt be any happier. Took off out of the hole like a sling shot and had a top end speed of 26 mph. The prop was worn out and a bearing was starting to go bad so I replaced everything in the lower end...all new seals bearings and shaft. The old prop was a 10x8 and i replaced it with a 10x8. I took it out and lost performance. It cavitated (caught air) on take off and I lost 7 mph on the top end. Called the manufacture back and they sent me a 11x10. This prop cavitated on take off but I got my top end back. Sent that prop back and went with mud buddy 10x8 thinking the pitch was a little off. This one was even worse. Cavitates so bad it wont even begin to plane out or go anywhere. I tried to shim the transom thinking that angle was off. This time it got even worse. Cavitated on take off and would not plane out. It would cavitate and only go approximately 7 mph. I have a short transom (measures 15 3/4 inches) and a short shaft mini. My transom angle is right at 17-18 degrees. I tried shimming the transom to get more of angle thinking that would help but no luck. I am completely out of ideas and duck season is getting close. I just dont understand why it worked fine in the begining and now it does nothing. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions that would be great. I really dont want to get a new boat because I just built a really nice hardside blind for it and I have a lot of hrs put into it. PLEASE HELP. thanks |

I used my gps on my phone. I have a video of the ride but I only had one camera so I could not get that on video too. I was able to get 24-25 mph with a 11x10 prop but it had issues getting up on plane with an empty boat. I took it to a guy today that knows a ton about the mud buddies. He took it out for a ride and said it is not cavitating and it seemed like something was slipping. Thought maybe the key way came out on the lower sprocket. We tore it all down and everything was fine. The rpms were at 3900-4020 while running wide open down the river. It still never planed out nor get up to speed. The guy that looked said it is getting plenty deep in the water and we pretty much narrowed it down to the prop but we still dont know why because that is the prop that comes with the motor, according to mud buddy, and that is the exact same prop that I took |

The 18 hp Mini came with a 10x8 prop. Which in my opinion was not a good performance propeller. I have a mudbuddy factory 10x8 that was reworked laying around. |

Here are two videos of my boat in action. The first one is with the old prop and the second one is with the new prop. Both props are 10x8. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Greg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnsHy...ature=youtu.be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMJkYb_eLB0&feature=plcp |

Ok I will try that. I put it on another 1448 with pods and it did the same thing exepct the bow was way lower because of the pods. Thanks |

pods wont help if you aint got some weight up front. you have to even out the weight just right. |
