 shaft keyway
Ok so I got nearly everything machined for my home build. Only thing left is cutting the keyway where the sprockets attach. I was just wondering what size keyway I need in it. The sprocket is from McMastercarr.com. It has a 3/4" bore but just says standard ANSI keyway.

 Re: shaft keyway
Maybe measure the depth of the keyway on the sprocket.

 Re: shaft keyway
With a .750" bore, it will typically be a .1875" key. I would just buy the sprocket bushing and measure it to be sure.

 Re: shaft keyway
I already oredered the sprocket I'm just waiting for it to come in the mail. I'm just trying to get the machining done so when it gets to the house I will have everything I need to start assembling. I guess I'll have to wait till it gets here to mill the keyway.

 Re: shaft keyway
I hear ya on those brown truck blues. I get them everytime I order anything. I'm sure they have a customer service or tech support line that you could call in the mean time to satisfy your itch...

 Re: shaft keyway
For 3/4" shaft a standard ANSI key will be a 3/16x3/16 or 1/4 by 1/4. If 3/16" your keyway cut in shaft needs to be width min .187" max .188" depth min .107" max .113
if 1/4" key width min .249" max .250" depth min .142" max .148
