When my 35GTR goes into gear...

 When my 35GTR goes into gear...Had something happen on Sunday and I'm not sure what the issue is... I'm not mr. mechanic so I need your input.
I have the old style motor (controls not on the tiller handle). When I move the switch from "Start" to "Forward" nothing happens until I rev it up (about 3000rpms) and then it drops into gear. I assume its something simple, but need your advice on where to start looking. I figured it might be a common issue. It didn't do it when I started that day, but did it in the afternoon and then went away completely and now is back. Re: When my 35GTR goes into gear... sound electrical....like revving it up puts enough charge to put it into gear...check your battery and all connections first......
