 Longtail Props Good/Bad differences?
Hey guys, I have been working on my third attempt at a home made long tail. With each motor I have learned things to change and now I think i've really got something. My question is what prop do I buy? I have looked at all the props but I have no idea whats best. My old motors were set up to take one of those tapered cast aluminium props. I plan on using a surface tracer cavitation plate from Backh20, do I need there prop to to really see it run right? right now i'm between the backh20 and the tiger prop, but maybe a GD or a BT, Any advise would be great!

 Re: Longtail Props Good/Bad differences?
I'm a fan of a TIGER...... Now, if ur in a lot of sand/mud, none of them will last...... Tiger has the most cup, backwater is great with speed....... Godevil doesn't have cup until a 9x6....

 Re: Longtail Props Good/Bad differences?
I spend most my time on the flint river In GA. Lots of rocks and some sand also the motor will see some flooded marsh and timber.I read on here before that the mb is a little faster than backh20. Does anyone know if this true? What about pushing power over stumps and thru the shallows?

 Re: Longtail Props Good/Bad differences?
9x6 is probably too big for my motor. It says 16hp but from what I have read it's closer to 13.

 Re: Longtail Props Good/Bad differences?
Thanks for the advise Kcpanages. I have based this motor after a swomp series so I will go with the backh2o prop for now.
wade_660 I mostly put in at white oak creek or down at hwy 18

We've run a 8x4 from backwater on those duromax engines with great results

 Re: Longtail Props Good/Bad differences?
What kind of speeds do you you think i will see. the boat is a 1448 grizzly allweld. Also what do you think about the duromax engine? I was skeptical but for $300 i thought it was worth a try.

 Re: Longtail Props Good/Bad differences?
Ptuck,
What are you running for bearings and seals on the prop end?
The backwater props are about $30 less.

 Re: Longtail Props Good/Bad differences?
On a light 1436 with no load I can bump 17-18mph, with a hunting load it drops to around 10mph.
Huck- I agree with the 9x3 for sure, just never could get my hands on one because of GD policy on parts without serial number...

 Re: Longtail Props Good/Bad differences?
I built an engine with a 15 hp lifan from home depot. I used a 8x4 backwater prop and on a 1436 i got 16 by myself and 5 gallons of gas in the front. 15 with 2 people. Very happy with backwater props. My prop had sharpie on it verifying balance test passed. I later bought one for my 24 hp mud buddy.

 Re: Longtail Props Good/Bad differences?
Those ones dont bother me. I got my little 10hp merc tangled up in the shoals just south of flat shoals road last winter when all the snow melted and the river was very high, very intense for a little bit there
