I am guessing it is just as good or better than the old one

Claim that it is. Said been holding up great with the the guys crawfishing with them. Seems that the 30" is also a magic number for drive length too. Said lots less vibration too.

bigrich did you buy a new motor recently or just get a new outdrive?

The cast outdrive has been out longer for R&D than some know, mostly started on crawfisherman's boats and crab boats which you know that is some of the guys that put some hours on their motors and haven't had hardly any problems at all with the new lower. Its proven its way into the market so far.

I trust that GT wouldn't be making the change if they didn't think it was as big improvement. I was told that any motor being ordered from here on out will have the new LU. I opted to wait a few extra weeks to upgrade to it and the new handle. Going 3 blade prop as well.

My motor is on order and asked for both but haven't heard anything or seen the new handle. What is different

They only have the two blade on the order page is it by special request for the three?

A 3 blade doesn't have anything to do with the handle...he asked what was different with the tiller. I didn't really notice a difference with the 3 blade as far as vibration it was about the same as the 2 for me.

I see the one zerk on it - does anyone know the lube requirements, does it take the same grease and same time between lubes?

Author:  deltaduckmaster [ Sun Mar 23, 2014 9:12 am ]
Post subject:  Re: GTR cast outdrive

2 grease zeros. One on top one on bottom. Each has it's own independent cavity. In other words your not filling the whole lower unit with grease any more. Lot less grease. Also top bushing does not need to be service as often as bottom. Bottom still has same service time top from what I was told was told every 100 hours or so.

Is the LU cast or machined from solid stock? The reverse plate is welded on. Would that be a weak spot where plate is welded to casr aluminum?
I'm sure they spent a lot of time with R&D. I like the design. It's not as bulky and could save on weight.

The 3 blades are nice because of that reason. I have jack plates so getting high was not a problem.

Won't b any bending skeg for tiller torque

Terry, I forgot to ask Kyle, but what are the improvements to the tiller handle? I am hoping that they move the trim to the end of the handle for one hand operation.

It's a cast piece now instead of the plastic cover. It also has a radius on the front so when standing up you can put your hip against it. I like that feature a lot. Also has a rubber boot that the Handel goes trough to help with vibration.

I would be nice when they do away with that big square plastic box for the controls. They can mill out a part in the handle to make it slick and put the controls in there.
