 GT35 Lower unit help
A little back story to help... put a single mikuni carb on and the overflow on the bowl pisses gas only when wide open. 3700+ to be specific. Had float 18 mm from top of bowl (where the book says to put it). So dropped it to 25mm and it still leaks. Talked to micah from mudbuddy. Says im pickin up a vibration somewhere and its causing the fuel to foam and the float is going erratic. Took it out the next day for more tuning and the crank case gasket started leaking oil. Found a crack in the exhaust bracket so thinking possibly that could have caused that. New exhaust is on its way and will replace gasket when i tear into the lower unit for this next issue. Later noticed its starting to seep grease right in front of the prop on the shaft and theres about a 1/16 or 1/32 of an inch of play in the shaft. Thats front to back not wobble. Should there be play at all? When at idle in gear shouldnt i see the prop turn out of balance if the shaft is bent? If its just a seal how big of a job is it to replace? The vibration is hardly noticeable. Doesnt vibrate anymore than any other mud motor that ive seen. Watching the carb when wide open it barely moves and handle has normal vibration. Anyone else had any experience with any of these problems? Just lookin for some second opinions. Thanks.

 Re: GT35 Lower unit help
The end play in the prop shaft is normal. Its also normal to see a little grease come out the prop seals. due to pressure from over filling or heat expansion.
Carb over flow can be from a number of things , vibration, float setting, trash, or damaged needle, seat o ring. Does your carb have a support or is it just being suspended by the boot? Are you running a electric pump?

 Re: GT35 Lower unit help
No support. Suspended by the boot. Micah told me it needed to stay that way so i left it. Also its brand new. Have yet for it to work correctly. Runs fine just leaks gas. Ive had the needle and seat out dozens of times and havent found any crap. If it was an o ring or any kind of seal issue it should do it all the time idling, wide open or not running at all shouldnt it?

 Re: GT35 Lower unit help
Hmmm,
Yes it should, but most leak at idle not at wot. A support will help with vibrations. with just the boot supporting the carb it will allow the carb to vibrate/shake more violently. These are Harley carbs and those sob's vibrate just as bad if not more and they have a rigid carb support system.

 Re: GT35 Lower unit help
Agreed. Ive had plenty of harleys. If anything its a more violent vibrate or shake at idle and opened up it smooths out. Do i start questioning a bad carb cast of some sort?

 Re: GT35 Lower unit help
Add a carb support and I think your overflow issue will go away. If you carb is in a high harmonic vibration you may not even be able to see it. I put a support under mine when I first Installed 3 years ago and haven't ever had a problem. I also used a piece of hydro turf between the support brace and the carb.

Unfortunately I can't explain it, you have to take in the stupidly yourself to fully understand this creature. Don't worry though, if you hang around it will find you .

 Re: GT35 Lower unit help
I would pull the needle and seat Then change out the needle and oring with the stock one that came with the carb. If that doesn't work send it to me, I'll fix that sob.
