Did a search but could not find the data I was looking for, so here goes with a question that may have been asked in the past. Are there any props out there setup mainly for speed? I've owned plenty of rigs in the past, and I'm in the process of switching back to a MM rig. With that said, I mainly need a MM due to running long distances with hard bottom and the typical downed trees every now and then. I'm usually the hole runner, so my loads will be light most of the time. I just need a prop that can produce better speeds with very little mud running. At the present time I'm still running an outboard setup, so MM has not been purchased yet... yes I'm trying :D

A 'speed' prop on a MM is basically a pipe dream unless you spend several thousand on mods. And even then, the 2 or 3 mph you gain on top end won't offset the problems you'll have getting the boat up on step.

I hunt Arkansas as well and to be honest, if you are a hole runner in timber, you need to worry about turning and acceleration more than speed. . As far as hard bottom and trees, get a hopped up 25 on a custom hull with a thicker bottom would serve you better. Just my opinion. . Mine runs good but it can straighten curves and run shit over versus out "speeding" them. If I hunted places that didn't have a soft bottom and stumps every 5 feet (felsenthal) I would have stayed with the outboard!

Obv. I'm not gonna win races against modded 25's turned 40+HP (which I have right now), or 40's turned 60,70,etc HP. I just have places that I hunt and run long stretches (no way around), and then need to be able to jump those downed trees running in the timber. My last true mud rig ran over 30mph with light hunting load years ago, so with the right setup (motor, gearing, prop, boat etc.) faster speeds should be possible now. I just wondered if folks have ever tried cleavers/chopper props from outboards in deep water? The main reason for a mud style motor is not for true mud running, but more for stump strikes at speed and long shallow runs over flooded roads etc... Had too many outboards in my lap over the years stuck WOT after a tree hit at speed, and I hate skinny water runs on plane (also hit sh%^).

Main thing you will limited to is rpms. The more rpms the more speed of course. Typically with these motors a so called speed prop doesn't carry weight as good.

if they weren't built for true mud running/shallow ass water and soft mud then why would the make them air cooled? :lol: if it was more for stump jumping I think they'd just make a really beefy lower unit lol.
