Going to look at buying a 2007 35 GDSD and being new to SD motors (always been a longtail guy) just looking for some help on what I should look for. |

I just sold my 2007 with 600+ hours on it. Ask what all has been done to the lower unit, service wise. (i.e. new shaft, bushings, seals, universal joints, prop, etc. depending on total hours) Look to see if any grease is escaping from the shaft housing behind the prop. This would indicate it's time to replace the bushings and seals. Open the two cover plates on the lower unit to see the condition of the belt and pulleys. While they're open, turn the prop back and forth with your hand and watch to see if the two universal joints under the lower cover plate have any play in them. If they do, they probably haven't been greased regularly and need to be replaced. Otherwise, when they go, THEY GO! I know from experience that it can leave you stranded in a hurry when you least expect it. Don't let that scare you though. That's pretty much the only thing that can go wrong with a GDSD that will leave you stranded, besides the Briggs powerhead itself. |

Look for slack in prop end of shaft moving it up and down, grease the shaft does grease come out seals, it shouldn't but that is an easy shade tree job! U-joint will last a long time (14 yrs never replaced mine on long shaft with regular greasing). |

That is expensive for that old of a rig. I can get you a 2014 GDSD 1848 boat with a 2015 hot dipped 35 hp GDSD, trolling motor, two batteries, head lights, gas tank, GD prop wrench and a 2014 trailer for about 11,500. Entire rig has 53 hours on it and looks great. Located in South Louisiana |
