I've seen knifes and even heard of chainsaws being diamond bladed, i was wondering if something like that would be possible with a mud prop? I know it would be very expensive but it seems like it would pay for it's self in the long run
Or is it just a rediculosly stupid idea?

I've thought about welding something like tungsten or something very hard but I've heard it will eventually break where you weld it.

It sounds like a great idea but just not sure how to execute it!!

I'm going to weld some stellite on the leading edges on some props. Just to try to see if it will help

I would think its something that would have to be cast? Like diamond blade or whatever else it is that wont wear and pour a cast over it to where its embedded into the metal? But I know nothing about how a prop is made so idk if that's even possible.. Lol

There is such a thing co in Dallas
It's called boron , the part is packed in it then in a oven , then controlled heat takes a day if I remember . It not cheap , but it is in the base metal about. .005" dose not change any dimensions used in aero space harder than alloy 6 , stellite mine prop is 4 yrs old no noticeable wear its use in the bay mostly sand

Talk to Kobalt. They make screwdrivers with the black tips that don't strip as bad. maybe they'll do a prop :)

We are current'y testing the new alloy we use on the new Dixie lower units to see if it is suitable for propellers.

Still too early to tell, but we have high hopes.

I feel like a surface hardener like nitrotuff or getting the prop nitrated would only help until the prop gets a nick in it and thus eleminates the hardening process. Why not use better materials for the prop? Machine annealed tool steel grade materials for the props then heat treat em.

Yall say that now until someone figures it out and never has to buy a prop again.

How much you think you spend on props a year? (that run alot of shallow water..)

The first year i had my motor i went balls the the walls and burned 6 props..buying a new prop every time adds up to over $1000...that being said though i did finaly figure out that rebuilding them is much cheeper but it does still add up to be pretty expensive.

Never have to buy a prop again? :lol: At best you'll get a little better wear...diamond tip'd, cryptonite, whatever, put it in some sand, I bet you burn it up..

Realistically speaking, someone who can afford a true diamond blade prop more than likely wont be driving a mud boat in the marsh..

Hypothetically speaking, you better be going 1000 mph and hit another diamond to break a fukin true diamond blade prop lol
Only way I would see that possible is hitting something really hard at a funny angle and torqueing the prop to where a whole blade would come off..i've seen it done before but i think you would have to try pretty hard to break off a whole blade

Im not talking about a prop completely made of a hardend material.
Same ole steel prop we use just with a harder more resistant material embedded into the leading edge.
That way the hard stuff has something to push into if you did happen to hit something hard other than a log. If you hit a big rock or concrete your gunna fuk up your motor regardless. But even when you hit a log or a stump the rotation of the prop will just throw the motor to one side. I've hit underwater stumps hard enough before that the motor shut off but not a even the smallest of nicks or dints in the prop.

Im not saying i know what im talking about it was just an idea to throw around.

Satellite will work well until it takes a hard hit. That's when a big chunk will break off. It's super hard.
