I saw craig's post about the prop selection but that was all for a carbed motor so I decided to go ahead and ask anyway to see if anyones tried it yet.
Does the EFI have enough ass to turn a hammer prop? It runs steady 4500 rpms but i wasnt sure if being a "stock" motor had anything to do with it.
I spend alot of time in shallow water so im looking for the hole shot, but dont wanna loose top end....

And no i dont already need a prop just looking at options for when i do

Idk how it will perform on your motor, but I dropped a few hundred Rpms and top end.
Gained hole shot and reverse.

I could be wrong but I thought awhile back people were saying that the new gt 2 blade was slower than the old

Are the new gt 2 blades still faster than the big blade?

Post subject:  Re: Hammer

That I do not know. Haven't ran a BB on mine. I feel like they're probably still a little faster but can't say for sure.

Post subject:  Re: Hammer

I guess when i get extra cash i can get a hammer and just try to spin it. I dont think i would have a problem getting rid of it on here if I couldn't though. Then move down to a big blade and try that. Then on to a GT 2 blade and see which one performs best on a EFI motor.

Unless theres anyone in Houston area thats got one and would let me try and spin it

Yeah was thinking bout trying to gt 2 blade on my 55 mag to see how it would do.

Wonder how the hammer prop would work on dual EFI GTr motors ?

Post subject:  Re: Hammer

When this 3 blade wears out I'll probably go ahead and order a hammer. Keep the hammer for hunting season and the 3blade for summer prop.
Im going to call mud buddy first (wish me luck) to ask their opinion if the EFI motor has enough balls to turn it.

on my motor with the gt 2 blade I only lost 1 mph

Post subject:  Re: Hammer

Called boat dr but didn't talk to andy, i don't remember the guys name i talked to though. Initially he said I wouldn't be able to spin the hammer but after i told him i was turning 4600 rpm he said maybe but only because he wasnt sure of the RPM to torque ratio compared to a modded motor. Said hes had anywhere from a 1mph loss all the way to a 5mph loss with a hammer prop. If i can get away with loosing 1-2 mph but run a load well, hole shot, and prop life i think its well worth it. Planning on ordering one when this 3 blade wears out to see, if not i dont think i would have a problem selling it on here.

Do you tend to run more deep water then shallow ? If so I'd stick with the three blade prop. I'm going to have dual 37 efi's . The plan is if my motors will turn a hammer prop is to use them during duck season and the three blade out of duck season.

I run shallow about 80% of the time lol i burn props quick in huntin season

I hear ya. I think a EFI will turn that prop worth a try if not just sale the prop

Post subject:  Re: Hammer

GT's run the best with GT props. Many guys played the prop game. The general feeling is the hammer prop lugs your engine and you lose speed. It isn't good for your engine to lug If you are spinning 4500 ish and getting good speeds, Don't change a thing. If you want a 2 blade get the GT 2 blade.

^ yes with a stock 35 gtr . Not sure it would lug with a 37 EFI

I think its an assumption, nobody really knows it sounds liks.
Ran it today loaded down with 4 people and a tank of gas and still did 27 in deep water At 4500RPM

Stock 35 with EFI makes it 37 so is it still stock ? So if gator tail started selling there 35's with stage 2 they would be stock since that's how it's coming from the shop ? Oh well I'm fine just buying the 2 blade GTr prop for duck season

Post subject:  Re: Hammer

"Stock" is probably a bad term to use.

I think everyone can agree that the "standard" is a Briggs Vanguard 35, carbed.

If a 37EFI were "standard," nobody would be wondering how they run comapred to a 35 with a carb.

To me---maybe not everyone else---a 37 is just a 35 with a $500 fuel delivery upgrade that increases the HP rating by 2, based on industry standards. If an aftermarket exhaust or heads or a Mikuni upped HP by 2, then it would be similar. If Briggs bolts on the modification and you want to argue over whether it's stock or not is up to the user.

Based on a couple of reports posted today, it would seem as though the marginal 2HP increase is not indicative of the performance gains realized by 37EFI users. See:

Any way you wanna argue it Id still like to see how the 37 EFI handles a hammer prop not just an educated guess.

Post subject:  Re: Hammer

I think of it as EFI is not a stock motor as its fuel injected and no further modifications can be done and has way more power than a 35 carb. But its not a modded motor because no further modifications can be done...its not either or, its just an EFI.

Im going to go ahead and try to run it when the time comes, i think it'll do good because i run best speeds at WOT but i cant run it because it hits the rev limiter. If i can trim it up at WOT and still do 4400-4500rpm i think i would get best performance.
