 Hammer Prop
Anyone running one on their BD4500? Seems like its a lot better from what I have been reading. Wanna see if guys are running them on 4500 and not just 55 mags etc etc..

 Re: Hammer Prop
From what I can tell, your motor has to have some nuts to turn the prop. I think it was recommended that your motor needed to turn over 4500 rpms or so with the BB prop for you to be able to successfully turn the Hammer prop. Not sure though.

 Re: Hammer Prop
I'm running a Hammer prop on a MB BD 4500 with 38/47 gears at 4490. Boat is an Alumacraft 1648 riveted jon. Bare boat weighs 290 lbs. Fishing load with me in it 940 lbs. Average speed from 4 different sources 34 mph. Only mod to motor is a Y crossover pipe.

 Re: Hammer Prop
The hammer wears so much better, but as it wears it gets faster. You've got enough motor to turn it.

 Re: Hammer Prop
You will loose some speed yes, as you wear the prop in, it will get faster. My boat screams with a bb, but one and/clay run and the prop is gone. I've had hammer on for over a year, still in decent shape.

 Re: Hammer Prop
I have trouble getting on step with my bowfishing platform on running a BB on my modded GTR. Moving my TM/light batteries to the rear to help with this but thinking about trying a hammer as well to step the load (obviously these hulls dont light weight up front, but it is what it is). Can turn the BB up to the 4800 rev limiter if wanted to, run 4650-4700 without bowfishing platform all day long so i think I have the power to turn it just figured i would get some opinions on how much it may or may not help with that load before i spend the money

 Re: Hammer Prop
Mikecatt13's GTR will run a lot better I feel with just the hammer prop swap out. I think the hearing would be a pain in the ass.

 Re: Hammer Prop
He didn't tell me the weight, I would say the platform is close to 150-175 lbs with lights then trolling motor is I think 70 lbs? Its an ulterra so its not light. Dunno how good my platform estimate is but it takes two guys a goodbit of effort to lift on

 Re: Hammer Prop
Adding that weight up front is adding weight no matter what prop. You should plane out easier by adjusting weight, ie passengers, coolers. Now about the hammer, I have nothing but good things to say. It will pick a load up better than the bb, but will drop your top end about 1-2 mph and rpms will be about 4400-4500. The prop wears so much better, doesn't burn up as fast. It is also a beast in reverse. Get one you won't be disappointed.
